Al-Baladhuri’s ethnicity has wl described as Arab   and Awhraf  although his sympathies seem to have been strongly with the Arabs, for Masudi refers to one of his works in which he rejects Baladhuri’s condemnation of non-Arab nationalism Shu’ubiyya.
